Sick of Vick

Okay, so the topic of this entry may be a little belated, but isn’t that the very essence of my blog?

I think at this point my Grandmother is the only person in the world that is still holding out hope that I will update it.

What better subject to get the ball rolling again, than the utter disgrace of a human being that is Michael Vick?

The former Atlanta Falcons star quarterback came "clean," if you want to call it that, by confessing to playing a financial role in perpetuating a dog fighting circle. This admission came, of course, weeks after Vick’s involvement was first rumored.

I don’t really care how big of a sports nut you are, or how badly you want to see the credibility of the NFL improve, or even if you have a profound belief that all men are inherently good.

How did anyone buy this guy’s act?

I heard a variety of news and sports analysts discussing Vick’s intentions after the press conference, and there were a healthy number of broadcasters and sports gurus that believed this was a good first step toward forgiveness. They thought Vick was sincere, and contrite about what he had done. Surely, you jest.

Is it not utterly transparent that he never would have acknowledged anything had his back not been up against the wall?

Even after one of his business partners agreed to testify against him, Vick was still intent on pleading not guilty. It literally took a guilty plea from every key defendant- except of course from Ron Mexico himself (Vick’s alias- if you don’t know why, Google it)- to force an admission.

Moreover, in his public address, he cited his actions as "immature." Immature?

Making fun of a nerdy classmate about their high-waisted pants is immature. Standing up a date because you don’t have the nerve to tell them you’re not interested is immature.

Subjecting animals to brutal and inhumane treatment, which reportedly included electrifying dogs that didn’t perform up to expectations, is downright malicious and sick.

I find it very disturbing that Vick may serve one year in prison, and be back in the NFL in 2009. Would anyone discount that possibility?

An NBA referee could draw a 25-year sentence for compromising his objectivity and blowing calls to make a financial gain, and Michael Vick, who fights innocent animals, will probably get off with virtually no time. That is just disgraceful.

Vick should serve many, many years in prison for his absolutely despicable actions.

Mr. Brock, I agree! I especially liked how you mention the NFL's credibility issues. The only way that the organization is going to win back the respect of the ever-increasing disheartened fans is for it to show that it has some respect for itself and that it holds its players to high moral, ethical, and legal standards. You are so smart and eloquent, you should update your blog more often!!!! Best of luck. -Gail Kissel
