Jumper opened this weekend making $27.23, making it the number one movie. Jumper’s cast consists of Hayden Christensen (new Star Wars series), Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Lane (Untraceable), Jamie Bell (King Kong), and Rachel Bilson (The OC). I don’t think that the Writers Strike helped this movie any, because the movie was very shallow. The idea for the movie was awesome, but the writers and the director failed to make it into the blockbuster hit that it could have been. Although Jumper was a fairly decent film, the “love story” aspect of it held back the potential for more success.
Written by Steven Gould, Jumper is about a war that is going on between two groups of people; those that can “jump” to anywhere in the world and those that are out to kill them because they have this ability. The movie doesn’t go into detail of the origin of either group of people, but rather focuses on the main character “David” who is trying to save his life time sweet heart “Millie”, from Roland (Samuel L. Jackson) the leader of the people trying to kill the jumpers.
The movie as a whole is a decent flick; although it is somewhat slow in the beginning, it keeps the audience entertained and interested in the story. But what stands out most in this movie is the scenery. The Coliseum, The Pyramids, and Big Ben are just a few of the things you will see. Being how it could have been better, had it not been for the “love story” part of the movie. I’m going to give Jumper 3 ½ kernels of popcorn. I was quite disappointed that they didn’t explain the background of the Jumpers, and that they cut back on the action scenes. But, alas, overall it was a good movie.
