At about 6:45 PM on June 3rd, 2009 thunderstorms rolled through the Commonwealth. Most places got blasted with thunderstorms and damaging hail however, one town went into lockdown. Tornado warnings went out for Page County, VA, the home of Luray, VA and the small but mighty town of Stanley, VA.

Check out the Public Information Statement from the NWS survey team what was sent down to Stanley, VA early in the morning on June 4th - one day after the storms passed. EF-1 tornado WAS confirmed!

Hi Lauryn, I live in a doublewide right outside the valley and am TERRIFIED that something like this will happen to my home one day. Do you have any advice on how to prepare for something like this? I have access to many heavy rocks and logs, should I start building a wall?? There are some loose boards in the floor of my bedroom where I was able to dig about a 6 foot by 6 foot little "T1 Emergency Room" in case of a tornado. But, I'll tell you what, a snake came slitherin right through that hole in the floor the other night. We love watchin you and if you have a chance, PLEASE give us some advice on how to protect our place from tornadoes.
